Midsummer Models was originally founded in 2005/6 to produce a 1:16 model of a Massey Ferguson 35X Industrial Tractor, this was a factory produced version of Universal Hobbies existing 35X. The model was a limited edition of 1500 and soon sold out.
At this point it was decided to develop a range of model Traction Engines, this time in 1:24 scale. The first engine selected was Burrell Showmans No.2888 'Britannia', a local engine to the firm having been travelled by the Thurston Family of Cambridgeshire. It was also a regular attendee of Cambridge Midsummer Fair from which the company takes its name 'Britannia' was an instant hit and was soon followed by another Showman's Engine, this time No.2804 'White Rose of York'.
Following the success of the first two releases it was decided that the company should next produce a Road Locomotive and a Scenic Showmans. These duly arrived in the form of No.2789 'The President' and No.3896 'Earl Beatty'.
Since then the company has issued a further four models, the latest being 'Lightning II' in its distinctive green livery.
The company plans to continue producing finely detailed 1:24 scale models, but a move away from Burrell's is on the cards at some point in the future - Watch this space!
